1 Global capital makes a once-in-a-generation shift from China to India
A momentous shift is under way in global markets as investors pull billions of dollars from China’s sputtering economy, two decades after betting on the country as the world’s biggest growth story. Much of that cash is now heading for India, with Wall Street giants like Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley endorsing the South Asian nation as the prime investment destination for the next decade.
Investors are paying close attention to the contrasting trajectories of two of Asia’s greatest powers. India, the world’s fastest-growing major economy, has vastly expanded infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his bid to lure global capital and supply lines away from Beijing. China, on the other hand, is grappling with chronic economic woes and a widening rift with the Western-led order.

2 Trump’s immunity defense fails as unprecedented election shapes up
A federal appeals court on Tuesday rejected former President Donald J. Trump’s claim that he was immune from prosecution on charges of plotting to subvert the results of the 2020 election, ruling that he must go to trial
NYT
A historic showdown over Donald Trump’s eligibility to reclaim the White House puts pressure on the US Supreme Court to provide a clear political road map as the nation braces for the prospect of a tumultuous year. Thrust into the fray by a Colorado ruling that barred Trump from this year’s presidential ballot because of his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, the high court will tackle novel questions about the Constitution’s insurrection clause, while trying to minimize its own ideological divisions. The court hears arguments Thursday amid warnings that a misstep might mean a fragmented, chaotic election in a country still reeling from the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. A ruling against Trump would mean other states could bar him, something he told the justices would “unleash chaos and bedlam.” And a group of ideologically diverse election-law experts said anything short of a definitive ruling on Trump’s eligibility risked fostering a “catastrophic” constitutional crisis and violence.

3 Republicans Fail to Impeach Homeland Security Secretary
House Speaker Mike Johnson suffered a stunning defeat Tuesday when Republicans narrowly failed 214-216 to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Texas Democrat Al Green, 76, delivered the dramatic tie vote, entering the chamber in a wheelchair as he was recovering from emergency surgery. It took just three GOP lawmakers to break from party leaders, arguing that discontent with the secretary didn’t meet the constitutional threshold for removal from office. Moments later, Johnson lost a second vote on Israel war aid, underscoring the tentative grasp he holds on the speakership of a small and fractious majority. Johnson spokesman Raj Shah said in a post on the social media platform X that Republicans “fully intend to bring Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas back to the floor when we have the votes for passage.” That vote could come within days.

4 ESPN, Fox, Warner Bros team up on live sports streaming service
ESPN, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery are teaming up to create a supersize sports-streaming service that will offer content from all major leagues, a deal that will reshape the sports and media landscape. The as-yet-unnamed service will be offered directly to consumers, who would be able to stream all of these companies’ sports content, the companies said in a statement, following a report in The Wall Street Journal about the new venture. Each of the companies will have one-third ownership of the new service, which is expected to launch in the fall. The companies didn’t announce pricing.
