Glenn Cunningham was born in Kansas in 1909. When he was 8, his legs were badly burned in an accident. Doctors recommended amputation and said he would never walk again. After 2 years, he re-learned to walk by pulling himself along a picket fence. Then he learned to run. He went on to run for the US twice at the Olympics in 1932 and 1936.
