Lewis and Clark

Thomas Jefferson secured the Louisiana Purchase for $15M in 1803, acquiring 828k sqmi west of the Mississippi. Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore these unknown lands (to the Americans). During their 8k mi, 2+ yr journey, they reached the Pacific, mapped the western US, collaborated with Native Americans, and made scientific discoveries.
