R. Norris Williams

R. Norris Williams, an American tennis player, was only 21 when he survived the sinking of the Titanic. After jumping into the icy water and spending hours in a lifeboat, his legs were severely frostbitten. Doctors wanted to amputate them, but he refused. He went on to win an Olympic gold medal for the US in tennis.
