FDR

When Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) was 39, he contracted a severe illness that left him paralyzed below the waist. He spent the next 7 years attempting to rehabilitate his legs but never walked again without assistance. In 1932, he was elected US president and went on to be re-elected 3 times, leading the US through the Great Depression and WW2.
