George Washington

George Washington is a well known Founding Father but his leadership at the Battle of Brooklyn in the Revolutionary War is less known. Facing encirclement and defeat on Manhattan, which would have ended the war in defeat for the colonies, he evacuated the entire Continental Army over the East River overnight in the American version of Dunkirk.
