John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of the US, was first Ambassador to the Netherlands, Prussia, Russia, and the UK. He was a US Senator and Secretary of State. After his term as president, he returned to Congress. He died on the floor of Congress in 1848. Without his leadership, it is unlikely that a fledgling America would have survived.
