J Robert Oppenheimer

J Robert Oppenheimer was born to Jewish immigrants from Germany. As a theoretical physicist he was placed in charge of the Manhattan Project to build the atomic bomb during WW2. In 3 years, he helmed a nationwide effort to successfully develop the atomic bomb. Though controversial, the bomb ended WW2 and has prevented large scale war since 1945.
