Nirmal Purja (known as “Nims”) was born in Nepal in a poor community. He served in the elite British special forces unit the Gurkhas before becoming a mountaineer. Among his many climbing achievements, he climbed all 14 peaks in the world over 8000 meters, including Mt Everest, in 6 months. The feat is featured in the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks.
