Aldous Huxley is the acclaimed author of the novel Brave New World but overcame significant adversity first. In 1911, when he was 16, he suffered an eye infection that left him nearly blind for 2 years. His sight was so compromised that he learned to read in Braille. He eventually recovered some vision, using strong eyeglasses to cope. With his sight damaged, many careers were out of reach so Huxley turned to writing.
