Rachel Carson

Silent Spring was written by Rachel Carson in 1962. The book highlighted the harmful effects of the pesticide DDT and attained massive popularity. The groundswell turned into the modern environmental movement. The federal government created the EPA, along with a bevy of other environmental laws. The first earth Day occurred on this day in 1970.
