Henry Clay

Henry Clay was born 1 year after the American Revolution in 1777. After becoming a lawyer, he devoted his life to public service, serving as state legislator, congressman, senator, and Secretary of State. He helped found the Whig and Republican parties. He was known as the Great Compromiser for his efforts to knit the fledgling US together.
