William S. Knudsen

William S. Knudsen immigrated from Denmark to the US in 1900. He held various roles in the automotive industry, eventually becoming President of GM. FDR appointed him to lead the Office of Production Management in 1940. In 1942, he was commissioned as Lt General in the US Army, the only civilian to ever do so. He helped lead the Allies to victory in WW2.
